"Blue Monday" is the most depressing day of the year. In fact, it is a pseudoscientific term that has no relation to the mental state of many people. It is more related to economic factors (in this period usually repayment of loans taken out for Christmas gifts). However, every reason is good to talk about what to do with broken New Year's resolutions.
You may have a problem with them, just like Ann, who is 32 years old and owns the cute dog, Toffee.
Ann dreams of a large family.
Unfortunately, Ann doesn't even have a boyfriend and doesn't believe that she will meet him because of her overweight. In addition, she worries about how extra-kilograms and the onset of hypertension (which all Ann's relatives have) will affect pregnancy and the health of her future children. Yes, Basia likes to dream and for 7 years around New Year she decides that "this year I will meet my future husband" and "I will lose 5/10/15 kilograms" (depending on how much she weighs now and what body types are promoted by the media ).
Ann does not fulfill its decisions year after year - those with new weight end around the birthday of their work colleagues when they bring cake to the office, and those about meeting the perfect boyfriend - well, when the year ends, and his still does not no. What can Ann do to finally make her decisions come true?
But how? Should Ann not lose weight about a dozen or so kilograms? Maybe you need to, but everyone who begins to lose weight knows that obsessive focusing on the target usually uses the opposite effect to the intended. In the case of Ann, this is a yo-yo effect, when Ann alternately loses weight and makes up for the weight lost. Instead of concentrating on calories and measuring out portions during another fashionable, but not necessarily healthy diet, Ann should focus on slowly introducing new habits permanently.
We have already written about the DASH diet (we are also planning to describe the MIND diet) - both have scientifically confirmed positive effects on health. The MIND diet is simple because it consists of only 10 groups of products that should be eaten as often as possible and 5 groups that should be avoided. Both the DASH and MIND diet allow for "cheat meals," or situations when you eat something banned and still stay on the diet. So Ann will be able to eat a piece of cake at work to celebrate the birthday of her friend from the desk next door and nothing bad will happen! This is a more realistic approach than "all or nothing" diets, whose principles are constantly broken and you keep coming back to them.
In addition, the MIND and DASH diets have one more advantage - they do not focus on the loss of unnecessary kilograms, but the health effects - in the case of the MIND diet, prevention of dementia, and in the case of the DASH diet - treatment of hypertension. However, these diets also have a good effect on overall health. The effects can be seen already with partial compliance with the rules of the diet. So Ann can gradually introduce new eating habits and feel the difference from the very first change.
Ann spent her free time so far, Fridays and Saturdays, preparing for the events she went to, hoping that she would meet her future husband. Unfortunately, all her friends were already busy, and new friends turned out to be newcomers from another planet. After work evenings and Sundays Ann spent cooking, shopping, cleaning and taking care of beauty with a view to the meeting of the dream guy soon.
Ann decided to change tactics.
Due to the beginning of hypertension, she slowly introduced the principles of the DASH diet - she started by increasing the portion of vegetables consumed by 1 per day, taking carrot sticks to work as a snack. The number of events per week has reduced to one on Friday, so as to keep in touch with friends and de-stress after work. Instead of getting ready and going out on Saturday, she moved all household chores of the week to that day. She devoted the time recovered in this way to her beloved dog, Tofik.
Ann began to walk with him for long afternoon walks and became interested in meeting places of local dog owners. At one of these meetings, Tofik became interested in Luna, a female belonging to Mark. From that moment Ann and Mark are a couple.
Ann introduces more elements of the DASH diet, which also involves Mark, who wants to lose weight himself.
Remember that you always have time to change your habits. The most revolutionary changes are introduced gradually, and to achieve the goal it is often necessary to approach it from a different angle.
